Under the volcano

Related to the air disruptions caused by Iceland's volcanic burps, I read (here) that ash in the atmosphere from the eruption of Tambora in 1815 (a one-in-1000-year event), on the island of Sumbawa, Indonesia, was responsible for some of the spectacular sunsets painted by Turner.

So are Europeans getting nice sunsets - surely there must be some positive aspect in this?

Tambora was the most deadly eruption in recorded history, killing more than 70,000 people.

We are not only getting great red sunsets but also enjoy the quiet resulting from nil air traffic.

People living near airports are having a holiday in their own garden.
That kind of pleasure seems one time only.
