Hasselblad to lauch worlds first CMOS sensor MF camera

Good for Hasselblad.

It's a Sony sensor, so it should be quite good.

Hi Marc,

that sounds interesting. Does this mean that in the future we will have high ISO capabilities also with Hasselblad? I mean ISO performance similar to a Nikon D800 ?

Best wishes

Who Knows Dirk? Hasselblad states "much higher" … so it depends on what they mean by "much".

I can say that Sony has really advanced their higher ISO ability recently … The 36meg A7R even does ISO 12,800 without banding in the shadow areas … and ISO 3,200 is a no brainer if you expose carefully.

MFD users may be a lot more picky than 35mm users when it comes to noise … so it remains to be seen what standard of IQ will be acceptable to them.

However, it may make the camera more versatile than in past, and be used in situations where one had to revert to a 35mm due to low light.

did you buy to the Sony A7? How does it feel compared to your Sony A900?

best wishes

In comparison it feels … small … Dirk :)

I still have and use the A900 and A99 with all the ZA lenses. I could not believe how small the A7R is, yet it's 36 meg, full frame. Now, everything else seems like a bag-of-bricks. Recently shot a job in Miami and it sure was freeing to not carry around a big rig for 6 to 8 hours.

Obviously, the EVF is a very different experience, but I had gotten used to that with the A99. The high ISO on the A7R is much better than the older A900 … but thankfully, the excellent color of the A900 has been preserved, and holds true even at higher ISOs.

In a low available light pinch, the ISO can be set to 12,800, and if exposed correctly exhibits no banding or clumpy noise … there is noise, but as Sean Reid mentioned in his review: "It isn't ugly noise"

With the Sony LA-EA4 adapter, all ZA lenses can be used and are just as fast focusing as on the A99. The ZA24/2 is small enough to be useful in this manner without tipping the balance too much. So is the Sony 50/1.4 and few of the older legacy lenses.

The A7/A7R doesn't have in body IS, which both the A900 and A99 do have. I'm waiting for the native mount Sony FE 24-70/4 to ship, which does have IS … so it'll be interesting to see how it does.

Hi Marc,

that sounds interesting. Although I will not go back to Sony. I sold my A850 and all Zeiss ZA lenses after Sony made clear that they will not offer OVF anymore and played too much around with different "toys". All these "games" of Sony back and forth... I just do not trust them anymore. But I miss the Zeiss lenses a lot! Nikon can not offer this. Neither the lenses, nor the in body Antishake.

I also tried to get "smaller". No FX anymore, only DX (D7100). But the lenses are the problem. I use a Ricoh GR for 28mm, because Nikon can not match that lens in their DX/FX line. But the Zeiss look is also missing with the GR. I definitely want to go smaller in size and weight. I am not sure whether I really need a DSLR.

So I wait and see what comes out in the Fuji-X line. The X100 was a joy to use. Apart of that the Sigma Foveon sensor is also very appealing by the way. The Sigma DPMs very attractive. Maybe we get surprises at Photokina 2014 from Sigma. Unfortunately Hasselblad is out of my reach with these price tags. So this dream will never come true I am afraid...

Best wishes

Dirk, I think Sony had to move in a different direction with EVF because they cannot unseat Canon and Nikon who are entrenched in the market. Sony could not play their game, so Sony is changing the game. Basic marketing 101.

Sony is young in the market, so they bring out new cameras all the time in an effort to win over new converts … it is a conquest strategy as opposed to a retention strategy … Canon and Nikon must concentrate on retaining their customers which leaves an opening for winning new clients over to Sony.

BTW, the 2 Zeiss FE lenses for the A7/A7R are pretty good … especially for the money.
