I don't know how factual this review is, but it be worth checking out this link.

Hi Ken,

what did you expect? This is normal. GearPatrol is a marketing agency platform. They write articles about products to "sell" them. There is nothing bad about it per se. This is their job.

You just have to know it, when you visit them/ read the articles. It is like reading the vogue for the latest fashion. Do not expect there real life, honest reviews :teufel-grinsend-schwanz:

Threaded view has advantages, if you have a bad system for quotes. At dpreview, you can only quote the full text, not parts of it.

This is why threaded view makes sense. You can follow easier side conversations.

But if you have a smart quote system like we do, threaded view is less useful.

With our forum software, you simply quote the parts of the text you are referring to. Highlight the part with your mouse, right click and insert it as a quote. Even multiquote is possible.
actually one could remove subsections in a quoted post at dpreview and insert replies specifically where one sees it fit. Mea culpa, I have not figured out yet how to juggle with multiple quotes in a single reply on fora like this one.
The threaded view is a unique feature for differentiation. It helps immensely to find the most interesting replies in a short time, and thus incites to spend more time an input to the forum. The threaded view does this by presenting a compact overview, where one has at least four giveaways at which might be the most interesting replies:
1) the reply author can write a specific title to ones reply, making it stand out from the other ones which just pick the previously given title.
2) the onlooker can immediately see forward to which post there are replies.
3) to the onlooker, the authorship of the reply, sets expectations for the quality of the reply.
4) the likes associated with a reply give a popularity ranking, and can help to discover new authors with outstanding replies.
On the other hand, flat view puts the onlooker into a sort of fog, where one has to take a glance at each post. This is way too time consuming and inefficient. The consequence for some people, like me, is to significantly reduce activity on flat view fora.

Just select the text which you want to quote, reight clikck and press quote. Do this with all other postings the same way. At the end, go to your text box at the end of the thread and click on "insert quotes". All previously selecetd text is quotes in the right order and you can write your answers inbetween the inserted quotes.

At the moment I don't know if it's Permanent but my Total Message Count and Threads Started has gone from 10000+ Messages to zero messages, after logging in. I'm also getting a lot of An Unexpected error occured message.

I am sure this will be resolved soon.

But please understand, that I will not give here any support for handling questions regarding their forum
We are an independent community and I do not want to establish here an outsourced support forum for them.

I do think there is enough interesting stuff to talk about which has nothing to do with dpreview. ;)

We have to grow out of the past.

Now that they use our forum software, there is nothing you can do there, what you can not do here too. No excuses anymore not to be more active here ;)
