SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gee, if only it would snow here in Victoria down under. Since "black Saturday" last week, nearly 500,000 hectares of land has been reduced to ash - the size of some countries!!

The bushfire temperatures reached 1,400C in some areas - about double of the expected bushfire temparatures associated with total destruction of everything in their way!!!

So hot that some car engines were found melted on the ground; some brick homes are pure ash. The authorities believe many of the dead will never be found or identified because of the way in which they "vapourised"!

Today there are still more than 12 separate fire fronts being fought.

But we must thank the USA and Canada who have sent more than 100 specialist firefighters here to help relieve our local firefighters.

Some good news is that public appeals for money to help the 8,000 people now homeless, has raised mre than $100m (above the Governments own emergency aid).

For me there was a period of 48 hour where I feared my friends (since I was 10) who have a "get-away" farm in King Lake / Flowerdale area (one of the very worst attacked areas with more than 100 people killed) had perished. It was a great joy to hear ther voices when they called to say they survived and saved their house!! A miracle considering that nothing else survived near their property!

So, please send us SNOW!!

I am happy to hear your friends for whose survival you feared are still alive and well.
Like Jürgen I say material things can be replaced but human life is unique.

Thanks for the picture of the burned tree.

I have seen the result of heavy fires some 35 years ago in the South of France. Many years later there was still proof of this disaster.

How do you convert to B/W and is it then a 8 or 16 bit file and what profile does the image have .
Did you print it yet and what paper are you using ? ? ?

This is a 4x5 inch LF image taken on ILFORD DELTA 400 developed in ID-11 .
Scanned with ARTIXSCAN F1 . At the time I took this image , digital was still on a very early level . But these B/W images from earlier times still have a fantastic charisma .
I did not manage to get the same from digital yet .

From Phocus, to photoshop cs4.

Sometime I creat B&W layer, Or I go direct to Grayscale.

I print with HP z3100 44" in then I pick the best paper, I like the most,
Hahnemuhle torchon-285 gsm photo rag 308, Arches infinity smooth finish.
