Hi Polarcircle and Polypal,
The 'gator was between 3 and 4 feet long, probably three and a half years old. I've seen him before as he lives in the Grassy Waters Nature preserve and likes to sun himself on the steps of the dock. He stayed on the step for about a half hour allowing me to get pretty close before he slid off the step into the water.
I used my 501cm with 80mm f2.8 Planar lens, tried the 250mm Sonnar but was too close to focus, (need to get some extension tubes) so this is cropped.
On my website in the Nature and Wildlife gallery (http://sailronin.smugmug.com) there are some shots of him taken with the Nikon and a zoom that are much closer details.
Thanks for looking,
Dave
