Sydney suburban electric train

This is a Sydney suburban 'T' set electric train photographed between Woolooware and Cronulla railway stations in Sydney's southern suburbs. These trains have upper and lower decks and operate in 8-car configuration on the suburban network. Each 8-car train has seating capacity of 1,680 passengers.

Nice shot. I followed your link. Those are cool looking units. Seems to be a bit larger and more substantial than what we call "light rail" over here. I will try to take some pictures of our "commuter rail" rolling stock (more a descendant of what we think of as a normal "train") versus "light rail" which has less capacity and the equipment more akin to inner-city "trams" -- but the track gauge is the same (1435mm; 4-ft 8.5-in here in the US).

Yes, these are classified as heavy rail. They are comfortable to ride in and can get over 100 km/h speed.

Here is a shot from ground level from last year that shows their size a little better, although given the zoom the depth is a bit compressed.

Looking really good (#4) and a nice eye on #5 with the angle of the vehicle on the left and the catenary support plus the lamp posts. If you don't mind, I might add a picture here... something I took maybe a month ago (or more) of a similar scene (station platform) - with "Modes of Transport" in mind. Although not a great pic, just something to share...

These photos were taken with my little Lumix GX85 with a pancake 14mm lens (28mm equiv). I often put this camera in my pocket when I go out for a walk as it's light weight and quite small. However being a smaller sensor m4/3 camera, it can struggle a bit in lower light.

It was starting to get dark so I actually caught the train to get myself a bit closer to home.
 
Well, it took a couple of days, but anyway! I had a meeting back in January (Tacoma area) and there were a few minutes to spare afterwards before it started getting dark. I drove over to the commuter rail station, parked, and grabbed my camera. Just as I got there, the 909 train was arriving. These trains typically have 8 bi-level passenger cars with pull/push locomotives (since they simply run back-and-forth on a line and there is no convenient turn-around other than the maintenance facility). I'm guessing 905 has a problem with it's diesel engine since the cab roof is covered in soot (i.e., getting smoked when it is in push mode). Somebody cleaned the windscreen/windshield. These are EMD F59PHI's. Thanks for letting me share/piggyback. Seemed to make sense rather then start a new post. I have not ridden on this commuter line! I should do it someday. SDRX S-Line.

I like the look of these units. They look really tall!

The platform looks quite a bit lower than the standard platform height here in Australia which is usually 1080mm above rail level (42.5 inches). Can passengers step straight onto this train at the same level as the platform or do they have to climb stairs to get onto the deck of the carriage?
