File size in RAW mode

Ok, so mine is on order, placed last week. The vendor, who will remain nameless, claims that Canon's first shipment due late this month will cover all outstanding orders (including mine). I'm not sure whether to believe them regarding either the date or the quantity, but on the other hand, they have never misled me in the past. :/

My question, based upon discussion in another topic here, is what size files should I typically expect this camera to produce in RAW mode? I presume a current D60 owner would probably know the answer to this.

I'm wondering if I need to purchase more storage. Today my main CF capacity is two 1GB microdrives, which is way more than enough for my 3.3MP G1, but I'm strongly considering going with true Flash memory for the durability. I worry about dropping the camera and losing all my images.

Here are the file sizes specified on the Canon USA Web site:

File size:
(1) Large/Fine: Approx. 2.4 MB (3072x2048 pixels)
(2) Large/Normal: Approx. 1.2 MB (3072x2048 pixels)
(3) Medium/Fine: Approx. 1.3 MB (2048x1360 pixels)
(4) Medium/Normal: Approx. 0.7 MB (2048x1360 pixels)
(5) Small/Fine: Approx. 0.8 MB (1536x1024 pixels)
(6) Small/Normal: Approx. 0.4 MB (1536x1024 pixels)
(7) RAW (3072x2048 pixels)
RAW + Small/Normal: Approx. 6.0 MB
RAW + Small/Fine: Approx. 6.4 MB
RAW + Medium/Normal: Approx. 6.2 MB
RAW + Medium/Fine: Approx. 6.8 MB
RAW + Large/Normal: Approx. 6.7 MB
RAW + Large/Fine: Approx. 8.0 MB
* Exact file sizes depend on the subject and ISO speed.

Using a Canon D60 with a 1GB microdrive for memory, you can store 127 RAW files.

If you switch to the Small JPEG, most compressed, you can get over 999 (I do not know how much over since the camera only displays three digits for the number of shots left.) Small uncompressed gives you 993.

Large JPEGs compressed gives you 655. Large uncompressed gives you 337.

Bob, Fred,

Thanks!

Sounds like I need more than two 1GB microdrives. ;)

FYI: My EOS 10D shipped from the reseller today.

I don't mean to brag. I just thought others might want to know that they have apparently arrived from Canon and are going out the door. I called by phone to confirm the email shipment notice and they said people were pretty excited.

I know I am.

There is no RAW option on my new EOS 10D, software version 1.0.0. Is this a known issue?

I have the option in mine. Did you check the manual to make sure you were setting it correctly
